Additional Info

Ani Difranco has zillions of pages on the Net. She’s become popular by word-of-mouth and thanks to her there has been a renewed interest in folk American music. In my opinion, singers such as Dan Bern, Pamela Means or Adrianne are benefiting from Ani’s success, which is GREAT!

Some Ani facts (thanks Dana!):

1. Ani started performing John Lennon songs when she was 9.

2. She started composing her own songs when she was 14, and at age 15 she

made demo tapes.

3. She grew up in Buffalo, NY, and moved to New York city when she was 18,

and started performing at different colleges, and selling tapes out of her

car.

4. At age 20 she finally made her first record under her own record label

company "Rightious Babe Records."

5. RBR has helped employ people in parts of Buffalo.

6. Ani is an activist fighting for women's rights. She believes in pro

choice.

7. Ani was pregnant when she was 17, but because of legal and safe abortion

clinics she was able to get an abortion and become what she is today.

8. After being inspired by a poem called "Lost Baby Poem" written by Lucille

Clifton, about an abortion,Ani sat down and wrote "Lost Woman Song."

9. Ani's songs discuss bisexuality openly, and Ani was a bisexual for many

years, however, she settled down 3 years ago and married "goat boy" who is

the sound guy on stage at Ani's shows. They live together and often write

songs together.

Quote:

You know, song titles shouted at random sound like some kind of surreal conversation. Sometimes they make more sense than real conversations do.
